Since 1268, Caerphilly Castle has stood as the proud centrepiece of the town.
The only difference now is that nobody’s charging the front gate – instead, they’re welcomed with open arms. As the largest castle in Wales, it attracts more than 100,000 visitors yearly.
As part of the Placemaking Plan, Cadw is leading a £10 million redevelopment to transform this iconic landmark into a fully accessible, modern visitor destination, securing its place at the heart of Caerphilly for generations.

The £10 million investment is being delivered in two phases.
Cadw are improving essential structural work, including conservation, roof repairs, and upgrading the Great Hall (it will be even greater).
Mixing the old with the new. Phase 2 will introduce 21st-century facilities to this remarkable medieval site: a brand-new visitor centre, an enhanced interpretation space, and on-site café will be built for all to enjoy.
